GIPSA-lab is a joint research laboratory of the CNRS, Grenoble-INP-UGA and the University of Grenoble Alpes. It has agreements with INRIA and the Grenoble Observatory of Universe Sciences. It conducts theoretical and applied research on AUTOMATION, SIGNALS, IMAGES, SPEECH, COGNITION, ROBOTICS and LEARNING.
Four Scientific Departments...
GIPSA-lab conducts its research through 16 teams, or themes, organised into four clusters: the Automation and Diagnostics Cluster (PAD), the Data Science Cluster (PSD), the Speech and Cognition Cluster (PPC) and the Geometries, Learning, Information and Algorithms Cluster (GAIA).
Among its teams, the DANCE project team is shared with INRIA Rhône-Alpes and the SygmaPhy team is recognised by the Grenoble Observatory of Universe Sciences. GIPSA-lab is also a member and contributor to the Carnot Institutes LSI (Intelligent Software and Systems) and Cognition, as well as the Grenoble Cognition Cluster. It holds chairs at the MIAI Institute of Artificial Intelligence and is a partner of the Persyval-lab Labex. Finally, the laboratory is the driving force behind the ROBOTEX 2.0 National Robotics Research Infrastructure and the Equipex+ TIRREX.
... and two Research Support Departments
The staff supporting the research (38 engineers and technicians) is divided between the shared services within two divisions: the Administrative and Financial Department and the Technical Department.
A group of 350 people
GIPSA-lab has around 150 permanent members, including 70 lecturers and researchers and 41 researchers. It also welcomes visiting researchers and post-doctoral students.
GIPSA-lab supervises nearly 150 theses, including around 50 new ones each year. All of these theses carried out at the laboratory are funded and supervised by lecturers and researchers, 50 of whom hold an HDR (Habilitation à Diriger la Recherche, or accreditation to supervise research).
Finally, around 60 Master’s students join the laboratory each spring.
